Your first thought might be, "What can a baby do with gold? I mean, it's an expensive gift, but it's not something that baby Jesus could play with."
The gift of gold will be really helpful for Mary and Joseph in paying for things, but more important is the significance of what the gold stands for. It is a symbol of Jesus' divinity. He is God come down to earth.
